Commissioned by the HD Duo, Australia (2015).

Upon receiving the commission from the HD Duo to compose a piece for saxophone and piano, I asked Michael Duke to select his favorite multiphonics for alto saxophone and send me a recording. I analyzed the spectra of these recordings, identifying the eight dominant partials for each. I used these chords as the fundamental material for the piece; this is why the work is titled Spectrax. I then arranged these chords to extract musical ideas, which I transcribed into the score.

The final details of the piece were refined together with the HD Duo in the days leading up to the world premiere in Mexico City in 2015.
